I received a gorgeous email recently from a Talking Babies couple who had a positive birth. I am honoured to have helped them forwards and was a part of helping them prepare properly. It clearly paid off. Thank you both so much for your email it put big smile on my face! A massive congratulations to you both. Enjoy many happy times together as a new family.
And guess what?! I’ve been given the consent to share it. Thanks guys. Enjoy everyone.
‘Hi Emily!
Thought I would let you know our little lady made an early appearance last Friday at 36+3 and I can honestly not thank you enough for everything I learnt through the course!! So here’s our crazy Covid story if you would like to use it😊
I can honestly say the best thing I did throughout my pregnancy is take the course and learn the hypnobirthing breathing!
I had always hoped to go to the alongside birth centre and have a water birth, and this was looking likely as I had an easy low risk preganancy! However in the early hours of the morning, I woke up to realise my waters had broken at 36+3 and knew that was off the cards. I slowly made my way downstairs and sat on my birth ball to see see how often I was contracting. I got my timer out, put some lavender in my diffuser and used my calm breathing to get me through the next 15 minutes. I was so calm that my husband was still fast asleep upstairs with totally no idea what was happening! After 15 minutes I’d had 4 contractions, and my app was telling me to go to the hospital! I couldn’t believe it, so I woke my husband and called the hospital to let them know I was on my way.
When we got there, due to Covid I had to go in alone, so my husband set himself up for a long night in the car park- however he was secretly expecting I’d be out quickly and on my way home with a false alarm, as i seemed so relaxed. I had to go to antenatal, and was quickly examined where it was confirmed my waters had broken, however as they couldnt see my cervix they told me it was quite likely I would contract for a few hours and then they would die down and stop.
The next few hours were a complete blur as they couldnt get a good trace on my baby, and decided to prep me for theatre ‘just in case’. The only thing that got me through without my husband by my side was being able to breath and concentrate on my relaxation. I didnt panic and I didnt feel afraid, as I understood everything they were telling me from going through it during the course, and i knew if i had to have a c section then that was fine. I used my calm breathing to stay relaxed, listened to my relaxation tracks, and somehow got through my contractions, despite having to lay still on a bed for the monitoring – which is exactly what I didnt want.
When the midwife came to check me a few hours later, she couldnt believe I was 3cm dilated, and finally I got to go to main delivery suite where my husband could join me. The Midwife Amanda that we had for delivery was very experienced and made me feel completely at ease, even letting me use the birth ball despite needing the monitor on constantly.
The next few hours consisted of bouncing, chatting, and breathing through my contractions, with a little help from that wonderfull gas and air and some lavender oil to help me stay relaxed. At 1.30pm I was 5cm dilated and my midwife stepped out for her break, with my husband also going to move the car. Well the midwife never got her break as suddenly the pain was overwhelming and I knew she was coming, and my husband was still out moving the car!! From that point on my body took over, and with the deep out breathing, a small episiotomy and a little more gas we brought our little girl into the world at 3.39pm.
The whole birth from waking up to holding her in my arms was only 11 hours and 49 minutes, and the most empowering experience of my life, so all I can say is thank you! Without the hypnobirthing to keep me sane, I’m sure my experience would have been very different, and I am so proud that I managed to do it with only breathing and gas and air.
Thanks again Emily 😊
