Danielle contacted me recently to share her natural birth with me. Danielle was booked to have a c-section when I last saw her. It was such a surprise to read that her plans dramatically changed. I guess her little boy had other ideas.
Such a great story, it definitely brought a smile to my face! Thank you for letting me share it with others.
Enjoy!
‘Hi Emily how are you? Just to update you that our little boy Kit arrived safely on the 2nd December! Sorry for the delay in telling you, but as I’m sure you can imagine it’s been quite hectic!
We had a planned c section for the 4th December due to some complications.
In the end he came a bit earlier than planned on the 2nd. On the day our pre op appointment was supposed to be.
So when we phoned our family to update them they assumed we were just giving them news on how the pre op appointment went. Lo and behold our FaceTime call to them was super exiting when they could see a baby in view. I think they might have thought we’d borrowed one for the call!
My waters went at home at 4am and 7 hours later he was here. We’d bought a Christmas tree 3 days before the planned c section and hadn’t quite brought it into the house, with a view to getting a pot for it the next day. Well, at 4am on Monday the 2nd David had to wrestle our Xmas tree off the car roof rack (while I was in the bathroom breathing through contractions) otherwise the car wouldn’t have been able to get into the hospital multi storey car park!
So, not only did Kit decide to tamper with our birth plan considerably but… drum roll… Basically the c section never happened either! As I was all prepped for theatre with the spinal block complete and the scalpel literally across my tummy ready to cut, the doctors told me that the baby was too quick for the Section and had already made his way down the Birth canal so…. 11 minutes of pushing and he was here!
So, although the birth plan didn’t go to plan in terms of the actual delivery; we got pretty much everything else we wanted for the plan including Vitamin k injection, delayed cord clamping and immediate skin to skin loveliness. All the things that Emily had prepared us so well for and despite not thinking I’d be delivering the baby vaginally initially, she’d prepared me well for this journey, so I had no fears. Thank you Emily. Your classes were worth their weight in gold!
All in all he arrived safe and sound and that’s all that matters!
Danielle and David xx’
