If there is one thing you read today let it be Carli’s positive birth story with intervention. It is incredible. Her and her husband clearly were a team and together they stayed focused and calm. I am flattered that Carli thanks me in her story for her birth but, I cannot take the credit. I merely passed on my Midwifery and hypnobirthing knowledge. Carli and Shaun were the ones who chose to deepen their knowledge and understanding by attending Talking Babies. This ensured they had the tools for an empowering, positive and calm birth. Carli and Shaun, you should be so proud of yourselves.

‘Hi Emily!
Hope you are well!
I’m so sorry this has taken me so long! I honestly am shocked at how quickly time has gone!
So here’s my positive birth story with intervention!
Thank you for being amazing and giving me, Shaun and our beautiful baby the most special birth! xxx
The day it started was actually my ‘due date’ which I couldn’t believe because I was convinced we had some more time still! Due to our hypnobirthing classes we took on the approach of not concentrating on a specific ‘date’ and therefore just thought of having a due month instead – this kept me positive and prepared for baby to come whenever baby was ready!
What actually kicked it all of was when when my husband made me jump by informing me that a spider was crawling up my pyjama leg!… after skipping around the bathroom I had my first surge! I thought nothing of it, took some paracetamol for a ‘tummy ache’, and went to bed!…. but the pains didn’t stop and so I started timing them, they were every 15 minutes so I thought I’d better wake Shaun up! He ran me a bath and called the hospital. As I was in the bath I had the lighting dimmed and my hypnobirthing ap on the go the whole time – it was a life saver – positive affirmations, scripts and a contraction timer all in one, this ap also counted my breaths and really helped me concentrate on each and every serge.
After relaxing in the bath for a little while all of a sudden I needed to get out! I’d had enough in there and needed to move!
Back to the bedroom we went and I was in multiple birthing positions, which I had learned in my pregnancy yoga classes, and my gosh they were great! We decided to go downstairs and I wanted to help that oxytocin flow while my husband got all the bags at the front door, so I put one of my favourite films on…. but I only got to the first scene and told Shaun that we had to leave! My surges we’re now intense and only 2 minutes apart so off to the hospital we went!
That time at home was 5 hours but it honestly felt like 1! With my calming techniques, the ap and being surrounded by my favourite things to get that oxytocin flowing,I was just concentrating on each serge one by one!
When we got to the hospital I was already 6cm dialated which was such a relief….. I was in my zone the whole time, the Midwives were amazing and understood that I was hypnobirthing and so directed all questions to Shaun.
The next 8 hours went in a blink again…. I completely put this down to being so in my zone, I had aromatherapy roller balls, my hypnobirthing play list and scripts (including the calming and reassuring voice of our lovely Emily) being played throughout and my husband was the best birthing partner – he was so reassuring and could see as soon as my shoulders started lifting and so gave me my aromatherapy and just whispered ‘relax’ which instantly got me back on track.
The birth didn’t go without a hitch as unfortunately after nearly an hour of pushing baby got stuck right at the last minute and the heart rate slowed dangerously down – but I didn’t panic – I knew I was in good hands and that everything would be ok as they got the dr in to perform an episiotomy and after 2 more pushes with forceps our baby boy was born!
Even with this I remained calm, quiet and focused. It wasn’t until later that my husband told me that there were around 5 extra people who came into the room – I didn’t even notice, I thought only the dr came in – I was completely hypnobirthing right until the end and was so in my own zone that I didn’t notice what was really happening around me.
I had such a positive birth and labour experience all the way through and I can really say that I enjoyed the experience.
I put this all completely down to hypnobirthing , without it I know it would have been a different story. I also believe that our baby was so calm and peaceful because he entered in a calm environment and was put straight onto a calm chest having the most beautiful skin to skin.
Emily’s classes explained all of our birthing options, and so going in with that full knowledge made us as prepared as you can be! The knowledge we gained was so important!
We are so grateful to Emily for making our birth experience so positive (even with intervention) and giving us the tools we needed.
Thank you Emily! xxx’
