When I first met Natalie and Shane on their Talking Babies Hypnobirthing course like so many others they worried about birth and were incredibly anxious. They decided to sign up to both of the Talking Babies courses it was an absolute pleasure getting to know them over the 8 weeks. Over this time they learnt so much; hypnobirthing skills to stay calm and relaxed, common processes and interventions which could happen during birth and why; a fantastic decision making tool. All of which were used when the time came. I am so pleased they decided to sign up and do something about their worries. Plus, many of their new hypnobirthing skills will come in handy as new parents!
I couldn’t be prouder of them both. Well done guys! You did it!
Thanks so much for letting me share your very positive birth story. I know so many mums-to-be will benefit from reading it.
‘Hi Emily!
We wanted to finally share our baby news with you!
Happy for you to share & photos.
we had our growth scan 29th April and they estimated baby to be 8lb 10oz… so induction booked for 13th May. They gave me a membrane sweep straight after the scan and I was 1cm dilated. Bled all evening and then the next morning too so had to go to Antenatal Day Assessment as it didn’t stop. Had monitoring & they said that we needed to make a plan as they weren’t happy with the blood. We had about 10 mins while they stepped out the room to decide if we wanted daily monitoring and not knowing or induction. We chose induction – we couldn’t have our water birth so thought let’s just do it as it’s not the birth we planned and he needs to be safe. They said at 12.15 go home get your bags and come back for 2pm! We took the car seat with all the tags on it still!
I had the gel at 3pm and we went for a nice walk around the local park and just kept moving and bouncing on the ball until 9. They told us we would then have to wait for my waters to be broken on delivery suite but they were extremely busy so no beds and we would have to wait. The ward was so busy it was really hard to relax and we forgot the headphones! I didn’t realise my contractions had started and at about 1am I asked if I could have a bath as I had back ache which they said they’d run. The emergency alarm kept going off upstairs and we were told we’d be waiting even longer every time, Which was fine! Shane went to the car at 2am to get some bits & I walked to let him back in and as I did in the corridor my waters broke all by themselves. Horrayyy!! I was examined and told I was further dilated and we were next for delivery suite. By this time the contractions were getting more intense. I used my tens machine – life saver! And ball.
At about 4am we were taken up to delivery suite. I was offered gas and air straight away but didn’t want it and stuck with the tens. I went in to full hypnobirthing mode and completely zoned out. Shane took on all the questions etc and left me to it just holding a fan to my face. It was like a sauna in there! I moved around as much as I could until things became too intense and I was leaning over the bed. Because of his size we were on constant monitoring which was annoying as the midwives were constantly trying to trace him and I was told to stay on my back in the bed. The place I didn’t want to be! The two midwives kept saying to Shane they couldn’t believe how calm and quiet I was and it was like I was asleep. I just counted my 4/8 breaths and I can’t tell you how much that distracted me. I was in the zone and it was lovely! I felt in control and relaxed! I eventually took the gas and air about 530/6 and at some point was told I was 9cm. It felt so quick!
They changed shifts and we had two new midwives. Who said I could start pushing… they asked me to come off the gas. And due to monitor stay led down and had my legs up in the stirrup things. I held Shane’s hand and another lady and started pushing at around 7. They asked if I wanted to feel his head but I knew it’d distract my breathing. I had to really concentrate. We had some lovely chilled music on too. His heart rate kept dipping and took longer to recover between contractions. My contractions weren’t regular either! I’d have one then nothing for 5 mins and then 2/3 in 3 4 minutes. I was recommended a cut (episiotomy) as he wasn’t recovering well. They gave me an injection (local anaesthetic)… next contraction I got him out in two pushes at 08:18 am on 1st May! The fear of being cut obviously did the trick!
We had immediate skin to skin & delayed cord clamping. It was the best moment of our lives. Shane then had skin to skin whilst I delivered the placenta. I managed to have only a small labial tear & the perineal massage worked a treat! The stitches were worse than the labour! Sadly I couldn’t have anymore anaesthetic so that was done on gas and air.
We were anxious to see his weight… as he looked so small!!! Our 97th centile baby weighed exactly 7lbs! And he is the most gorgeous baby.
We were sent home at 2 that same day and we felt like super heroes.
We loved your classes and I loved my labour. Despite it not being what i planned or wanted. I now wouldn’t want it any other way. Hypnobirthing was just incredible and It’s that, that got us through so calmly and happily!
Thank you so much for everything! Today was his due date so he was two weeks earlier.
We don’t think our birth would’ve been the same without all your help and preparation!
We’re spreading the talking babies word to everyone we know!
Thank you so much,
Natalie, Shane & Jude xxx’
